Winning Team 2008

Our Society is a sponsor of MATHCOUNTS, a competitive mathematics program open to sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students. Students first compete at their local school and then on the regional level. The state is divided into six regions. The three winning teams from each region, together with top-scoring individuals not represented on those teams, then compete at the state level to determine the four top-scoring individuals who represent New Hampshire at the National Competition. For more information about this program, please contact Ben Pratt, P.E. (bpratt@conknet.com) or visit www.mathcounts.org.

At the state meet, the students compete in three written tests known as the Sprint, Target and Team Rounds. Based on the results of those rounds, the 12 top-scoring individuals compete in the Countdown Round, a fast-paced test in which the questions are projected on a screen and the competitors have a maximum of 45 seconds to answer.

The activities at Plymouth State University were coordinated by Dr. Jack Barry, Head of the Mathematics Department.
