NHSPE National Engineer's Week

Engineers Week Annual Banquet and Trade Show

The 2009 New Hampshire Engineers Week banquet and Tradeshow was held on Thursday, February 19th with great success! The event started around 4 pm when the commercial vendors, Engineering Societies and Student groups began setting up their booths. By 5 pm an empty ballroom had been transformed into a multi-disciplinary Engineering exposition, and we even filled the outer foyer with Student Projects.

During the Engineering expo, guests enjoyed mingling with friends and visiting the trade show booths, while engineers from all disciplines, working in businesses large and small, were able to network.

Even though attendance was down this year to 172 dinner guests, we had 11 commercial vendors and 4 student groups participate. A record was set this year by the number of engineering societies represented, with 9 of the 10 NH engineering societies sponsoring the Hors D’oeuvres service.

The banquet guests were welcomed by our new Engineers Week committee chairman, Roch Larochelle, PE. George Fredette, PE, stepped down as engineers week chair at the end of 2008, after chairing the committee for the past 13 years, so Roch had a very tough act to follow. I think all would agree Roch did a great job with the 2009 event.

Roch then introduced the honorable Governor John Lynch to say a few opening remarks, who spoke to the importance of having a strong engineering industry here in New Hampshire, and because of the strong industry, NH is becoming a global leader in technology.

The Annual Engineers Week banquet would not be complete without the awards. This years’ Engineer of the Year award was presented to Mr. George Fredette, PE, as recognition of his many years of service to the engineering industry, his community, and his family. The Young Engineer of the year award was presented to Anthony Coviello, PE as recognition of his contributions to the engineering industry, his community and his family.

The planning process for Engineers Week 2010 is all ready underway, and we will be back at the Center of New Hampshire Radisson hotel on February 18th, 2010. Thank you very much for your attendance of the e-week banquet, and if you weren’t able to attend the festivities this year, please consider the event for 2010.

Respectfully Submitted:

Craig T. Bailey, PE
